Plasmodium parasites across the experimental period in captive malaria-infected low-elevation adult male Hawaii Amakihi with CORT or sham implants. The number of Plasmodium parasites per milliliter of blood was greater in birds with CORT than with sham implants (estimate: 0.50±0.14, CI: 0.25 to 0.76). Asterisk indicates a significant difference by implant type for all time points combined. Values are presented as means±s.e.m. (sample sizes are indicated on the figure).
