The DMSO-PEG400 combination reduces the FITC-dextran flow from the intestinal lumen to the systemic circulation. The FITC-dextran levels were considerably elevated in the group with burn plus PA14 infection, while DMSO-PEG400 administration significantly reduced these levels. FITC levels were assessed in the serum with fluorescent spectrophotometry (excitation, 480 nm; emission, 520 nm). Data are averages and SEM.
