Due to decreased PDC activity, lactate abnormally increases, and excessive lactate transport through MCTs leads to tissue microenvironment acidification. Increased lactate also inhibits the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway by activating HCAR1, resulting in the decline of cognitive function in mice.
