Rod morphology. (A) Rods in this oligodendroglioma are visible as hematoxylin-poor, slightly eosinophilic linear zones in hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections of some tumors. (B) Confocal image showing double immunofluorescence staining for SDL (green) and lamin B1 (red) in an oligodendroglioma. The majority of rods are linear. Occasional paracrystalline sheets (arrow shows a curved sheet) and dot-shaped (arrowhead) morphologies are seen (see inset).
