Cumulative antimicrobial-conjugate release from mouse J774A.1 membrane-encapsulated antimicrobial-conjugated nanoparticles as a function of exposure time to phosphate buffered saline (PBS: 10 × 10−3 m potassium phosphate with 150 × 10−3 m NaCl added) at pH 5.0 and 7.4. The discontinuity in the release curve at pH 5.0 at around 24 h is likely related to disassembly of the nanoparticles (compare Figure 2a). Drug release was measured using UV–vis spectroscopy. Data are expressed as means ± standard deviations over triplicate nanocarrier preparations.
