Etoposide is less effective in ATP-depleted cells. HeLa cells were treated with either 25 µM etoposide, 50 µM etoposide, 200 nM mitoxantrone (MTX), or 250 µg/ml neocarzinostatin (NCS) in the presence and absence of 25 mM 2DG/10 µM CCCP for 30 min. Cells were washed and incubated in medium without drugs for 3 days. Average values of viability and SD were calculated (n = 5). Statistical values are as follows; *: statistically significant, 25 µM etoposide p = 6.63E−06, 50 µM etoposide p = 2.11E−05. NS: Not significant, MTX p = 0.375, NCS p = 0.882.
