Mesodermal cells (gray round) induced by Wnt activators secrete auto/paracrine factors that may suppress Wnt signaling. At an initial low cell density, the suppression provided by the auto/paracrine factor is weak. Early addition of Wnt signaling inhibitors suppresses including non-cardiac mesoderm genes to induce cardiomyocytes.
