Timothy hay (Phleum pratense L.) was chopped to a mean particle size of 2.5 mm and added to starter A at 5% and starter B at 10%.
Starter A was available freely to calves from day 2 of life. Starter B was fed to calves when they could consume a minimum of 500 g starter A.
