Solute synthesis of different A. baumannii strains and their corresponding ΔcsrA mutants after osmotic upshift. A. baumannii ATCC 19606, 17961, and AB09-003 and their corresponding ΔcsrA mutants were grown in mineral medium with succinate as the carbon and energy source. After they reached an optical density of 0.4 to 0.5, cells were exposed to 300 mM NaCl, indicated as time point = 0. Cells were harvested to the indicated time points, and the glutamate (white bars), mannitol (orange bars), and trehalose (blue bars) content was quantified. Error bars denote the standard deviation from the mean, calculated from at least three biological replicates.
