Serial cross sections of the soleus muscles of Aged Ex (−) (A and C) and Aged Ex (+) (B and D) rats were stained with SDH (A and B) and myofibrillar adenosine triphosphate (ATPase) (C and D) stains (×20). SDH activity of type I fiber (E), type II fiber (F), and FCSA of type I (G) and type II fiber (H) were measured in Aged Ex (−) (n = 5) and Aged Ex (+) (n = 4) rats using the stained images.
