The genes that are differentially upregulated are related to innate immunity and neutrophil activation, migration of immune cells, cell-cell cross-talk in inflammation, tissue regeneration, and ECM remodelling.118 Thus, it may be that these functions are more highly activated in UC1 than UC2 patients.
