Peri-operative care for esophagectomy. The anesthesiologist is required to follow the patient throughout the entire peri-operative phase: during pre-operative evaluation, the patient is referred to the anesthesiologist for the optimization of their medical conditions; whereas intra-operatively their task is to provide the best evidence-based “protective anesthesia” in order to maximize post-operative recovery.
