Postpartum hyperalgesia is common in mothers whether they undergo spontaneous delivery, assisted vaginal delivery, or cesarean section. However, the association between postpartum pain sensitivity and postpartum depression in mothers has still not been revealed.
Eighty-seven of 210 mothers (41.4%) who screened positive for postpartum depression (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale score ≥ 10 points) exhibited significantly higher pain sensitivity questionnaire-total and pain sensitivity questionnaire-minor scores than those who screened negative.
Gestational diabetes, low occurrence of breastfeeding, and low birth weight were the risk factors for mothers with Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale score ≥ 10 points.
