Why carry out this study?
Both multifocal intraocular (IOL) and contact lenses (CL) have been considered among the best for clinical presbyopia correction. Nevertheless, detailed visual performance and patient satisfaction after multifocal IOL implantation and during multifocal CL wear in IOL-implanted eyes have so far not been directly compared
What was learned from the study?
The multifocal IOL and CL groups both showed good near-to-distance binocular vision and subsequent high patient satisfaction with acceptable contrast sensitivity. It is suggested that both treatments are feasible options for correcting presbyopia in older subjects
