Inclusion criteria
  • Age 40 to 70 years

  • No previous history ischaemic stroke

  • Diagnosis of stroke confirmed by imaging

  • Within 2 to 7 days of stroke onset


Exclusion criteria
  • Not available during study period

  • History of side effect of fluoxetine and other antipsychotic drugs

  • Pregnant or breast feeding

  • Depression in the previous month and treatment with antipsychotic drugs

  • Use of any MAOI in the last 5 months


Aiming to recruit 60 participants
Interventions Experimental: 20 milligram fluoxetine and ‎standard treatment (antiplatelets, anticoagulant and statin)
Comparator: placebo and ‎standard treatment (antiplatelets, anticoagulant and statin)
Outcomes Primary outcome collected at 1 and 2 months
  • Change to side effect of stroke (NIHSS questionnaire)
