a) T cell receptors recognize antigens presented in MHC molecules by APCs or target cells (tumor). A T cell receptor activation complex is formed in conjunction with CD3. Additional co-stimulation is required for T cell activation leading to proliferation and cytokine release. b) CAR T cells express genetically engineered chimeric receptors capable of recognizing tumor associated antigens independent of MHC and co-stimulation.
