Methods	Multicentre, double‐blind, randomised, parallel‐group, placebo‐controlled trial
Participants	Participants: Adults aged 18 ‐ 75 with: Score of ≥ 16 on the HDRS; Treatment for ≥ 8 weeks with 1 or more standard antidepressants, at stable dose for ≥ 3 weeks; Currently receiving at least the minimum therapeutic dose of 1 or more standard antidepressants, as defined in the BNF; Diagnosis of major depressive disorder (DSM‐IV).
