Out of Synergy Position for Knee Flexion Practice. Panel (a) is the start position for the out-of-synergy position for knee flexion practice. The out-of-synergy exercise is more difficult in that the hip is no longer in a flexed position as in Figure 2. Rather, the hip is in an extended position or neutral position, as shown here, at the start of the exercise, and the participant is directed to maintain this hip position throughout. Panel (b) shows the end position of the motor task, which is to flex the knee and maintain the hip in extended or neutral position (with permission, JRRD, 2012, Daly et al. [31]).
