Bilirubin pigmented casts in urine (phase contrast microscope original magnification 400×). (a) bilirubin pigmented precipitates. (b) biliary cast containing renal epithelial cells. For manual microscopic examination: 10 mL aliquot of the first urine of the morning was centrifuged at 400× g for 10 min, then the supernatant urine was removed, the sediment resuspended, transferred to a slide, and analyzed with a phase contrast microscope.
