Timeline of Experiments. Experiment 1: Female Long-Evans rats received unilateral cannula (2 mm dorsal RE). After 1 week of surgery recovery, rats received microinjections of vehicle or muscimol (0.5mM) prior to water/TMT exposure (with bedding). 2 weeks later, rats were re-exposed to the initial TMT-paired contextual environment in the absence of TMT. The sample size of each treatment group is as followed: aCSF, water (n=10); muscimol, water (n=8); aCSF, TMT (n=8); muscimol, TMT (n=8). Experiment 2: Surgery and microinjection procedures same as Experiment. Water/TMT exposure occur without bedding for experiment 2. Two weeks later, rats were re-exposed to the initial TMT-paired contextual environment in the absence of TMT. The sample size of each treatment group is as followed: aCSF, water (n=8); muscimol, water (n=7); aCSF, TMT (n=7); muscimol, TMT (n=9).
