Comparisons of inflammatory mediator concentrations at baseline. (A) In plasma, patients with severe lung damage (n = 61) had higher levels of proinflammatory mediators than those with mild lung damage (n = 46). (B) Sputum levels of mmp8 were higher whilst MPO and IL10 were lower in patients with severe (n = 60) compared to mild lung (n = 36) damage. (C) Whereas sputum S100A8 was higher and MPO was lower in patients with high Mtb loads (n = 45) compared to low Mtb loads (n = 53).
