Fig. 3 — Lifestyle adaptations of Rhizobium from rhizosphere to symbiosis. Insertion sequencing was used to establish the role of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae 3841 (Rlv3841) genes at multiple stages of symbiosis with Pisum sativum. A. Rlv3841 transposon library was inoculated onto a 7‐day‐old pea seedling. Following inoculation bacteria were collected from four stages of symbiosis for analysis: (B) the rhizosphere (5 dpi), (C) the root (5 dpi), (D) nodule bacteria (28 dpi) and (E) N2 fixing bacteroides (28 dpi). Analysis of DNA purified from the input library and four output libraries enabled genome‐wide classification of gene fitness contributions at each stage. Created with BioRender.com.
