Schematic representation of the multiple pathways that lead to the activation of coagulation and thrombosis. Direct and indirect mechanisms of endothelial damage contribute to a disruption in the endothelium that would initiate the coagulation cascade. The inflammation caused by COVID-19, which leads to a cytokine storm, is also an important contributor.
