Protocol for the OVA/alum-induced asthma mouse model. The OVA, OVA + SHO and OVA + GIN groups were sensitized with 50 µg OVA and 1 mg alum (i.p.) in 200 µl PBS, and the control group was sensitized with 200 µl PBS on days 0 and 14 (n=6/group). The OVA, OVA + SHO and OVA + GIN groups were challenged with 2% OVA, and the control group received saline solution for 20 min through a nebulizer on days 28, 29 and 30. i.p. injections of SHO or GIN were performed 2 h before each challenge step. i.p., intraperitoneal; OVA, ovalbumin; SHO, 6-shogaol; GIN, 6-gingerol; alum, aluminum hydroxide.
