(A) Analytical workflow of metabolomics studies. A typical metabolomics study includes experimental design, sample collection, sample profiling, data analysis, and functional interpretation stages. Metabolites from biological fluids, cells, and tissues that differ between tumor and control groups can be detected using metabolomics [e.g., nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)] and data analyses. Discovery of metabolic biomarkers and pathways that are specific to certain cancers benefit cancer research.
