Effect of the ethanolic extract of D. esculentum on (A) BACE-1 activities and (B) Aβ42 accumulation in the Drosophila models of AD. AD-free flies (elav-Gal4) were cultured on a normal medium, and AD flies (APP-BACE-1) were cultured on a medium containing deionized water (DI), 1% DMSO, 125 µg/mL and 250 µg/mL of D. esculentum and 10 µM donepezil for 28 days before assay for either BACE-1 activities or Aβ42 levels. Values are mean ± SD of three assays and statistical significance was analyzed against AD flies (DI) by one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s test. **, p < 0.01) and ****, p < 0.0001.
