A schematic of the pressure controlled in vivo rat protocol of hemorrhagic shock. Shed blood volume was taken over a 20-minute period to maintain mean arterial blood pressure of 35 to 40 mm Hg (40.3% [0.6%] blood loss), and the rat remained in shock for a period of 60 minutes before resuscitation (0.3 mL intravenous fluid bolus).
