(B) Evolutionary conservation of the DSPP protein. Multiple amino acid sequence alignment of DSPP indicated conservation of valine (shown in red) at position 18 in different species. (C) The size and hydrophobicity of mutant residues are different from those of the wild type, which also changes the original characteristics of the DSP protein.
