Risk of re-feeding syndrome
Extremely High risk
  • BMI<14/m2

  • Negligible intake>15 days

High risk (NICE criteria for refeeding syndrome)
  • One or more of the following
    1. BMI<16 Kg/m2
    2. Unintentional weight loss >15% over the last 6 months
    3. Little or no nutritional intake for>10 days
    4. Low K, PO4, or Mg before feeding.
  • Two or more of the following
    1. BMI<18.5Kg/m2
    2. Unintentional weight loss >10% over the last 6 months
    3. Little or no nutritional intake in >5 days
    4. History of alcohol abuse, or use of the following drugs: insulin, chemotherapy, diuretics, or antiacids with Mg or Al
