^aOne hour after EMS isolation, embryos were heat shocked at 33.5°C for 40 min and then allowed to recover for 16 to 20 h. For each strain, control embryos were allowed to develop following laser ablation without the application of heat shock; none of these control embryos produced dpy-7::GFP-positive nuclei (data not shown).
