Defined length of intestinal segments used for bacterial extracts. Luminal contents were extracted from the proximal 15 cm of small intestine (SI) and defined as the upper SI bacterial extract. Luminal contents of the distal 10 cm of distal SI were collected and defined as the lower SI extract. Luminal contents of the entirety of cecal sack were used for Cecal extracts, and luminal contents of the entire length of colon were used for colon extracts.
