In vivo transcriptional activation by selected amino acid substitutions in the VP16 core. A β-globin (OCTA⁺)TAATGARAT-containing reporter plasmid and an α-globin internal reference plasmid were transfected into HeLa cells in the absence (lane 1) or presence of wild-type (WT; lanes 2 and 12) or mutant (lanes 3 to 11) VP16 expression plasmids.
