Shoot illumination is essential for sucrose-promoted primary root growth. (B) Primary root length of 10 DAG seedlings grown with (+suc) or without (–suc) for 4 days in LD and shifted to total darkness (LD → D) or kept continuously in LD for additional 6 days (LD); alternatively, seedlings were grown for 4 days in darkness and kept in darkness for additional 6 days (D) or their shoots were briefly exposed to light for 8 h (8-h LD) (n ≥ 10).
