Recommended doses of iron–folic acid treatment

5–9 years 45 mg iron +400 mcg folic acid/week 3 mg/kg body weight/day
Body weight up to 18.5 kg: 45 mg iron +400 mcg folic acid/day
Body weight >18.5 kg: 60 mg iron +500 mcg folic acid/day
10–19 years (girls) and boys 60 mg iron +500 mcg folic acid/week 120 mg iron +1 mg folic acid
Pregnant women 60 mg iron +500 mcg folic acid/day 120 mg iron +1 mg folic acid
Non-pregnant non-lactating women and lactating women 60 mg iron +500 mcg folic acid 120 mg iron +1 mg folic acid
Men Not applicable 120 mg iron +1 mg folic acid

Severely anaemic participants will be referred to local primary health centre.

For children with severe acute malnutrition, if the child is in rehabilitation stage and has appetite and is gaining body weight, iron–folic acid dose @ 3 mg/kg/day iron will be given.
