Expression pattern of 8 genes across 79 samples in which there is a synergistic effect of DEE and cigarette smoking on gene expression levels (linear-model interaction effect FDR < 0.25). For the identified genes, the magnitude of the difference between the observed expression level of the DEE-exposed smokers and the unexposed non-smokers is less than would be predicted by the effects of DEE-exposure and smoking alone. For each boxplot, the edges of the box are the 25th and 75th percentile of the data and the whiskers are the minimum and maximum values that do not exceed 1.5X the inter-quartile range.
