Representative Cross Sections of the LV of Normoxemic Control and SSO2 Therapy Pig Hearts

Representative cross sections of the LV of pig hearts subjected to 60 minutes of coronary artery occlusion either treated with normoxemic control (left) or SSO2 therapy during reperfusion (right). Heart slices were incubated in triphenyl-tetrazolium chloride. The infarct appears as a white area, whereas noninfarcted, viable tissue appears red. SSO2 therapy significantly reduced myocardial infarct size in this study. Original (unpublished) data from the study of Spears JR, Henney C, Prcevski P, et al. Aqueous oxygen hyperbaric reperfusion in a porcine model of myocardial infarction. J Invasive Cardiol. 2002;14:160-166. Abbreviations as in Figure 2.
