Bacterial-produced metabolites can directly influence gut motility, leading to a cascade of effects and feedback mechanisms impacting the production of the metabolite itself. Gut bacteria replicate and produce their metabolites based on the availability of nutrients. Metabolites impact gut motility, which, in turn, modifies the fluid flow. The flow is directly responsible for the transport and dispersion of nutrients, bacteria, and their metabolites, closing the feedback loop.
