Recruitment: primary care setting. Assessed for eligibility: 131. Randomly assigned: 110. Completed: 93. Mean age: SM: 63.4 (SD 9.6) years; UC: 65.7 (SD 9.9) years. Gender (% male): SM: 44.0; UC: 46.5. COPD diagnosis: postbronchodilator ratio of FEV1/FVC < 0.7 and FEV1 < 80% predicted. Inclusion of participants in acute phase: not reported. Major inclusion criteria: confirmed diagnosis of COPD as per GOLD guidelines. Major exclusion criteria: unable to perform spirometry for a medical reason; unable to communicate in written or spoken English. |
