Digital methods of delivering educational additional risk minimization measures that go beyond simple provision of PDFs of paper materials are likely to offer improvements over traditional paper-based programs such as: • Rapid distribution of up-to-date information once it has been approved; • Provision of feedback on the number of users and user engagement with content; • Additional features such as inclusion of rich media, reminders, interactive knowledge checks; and tailoring to user needs and preferences; • Option to connect with data from various sources (e.g., telemetry devices, mobile devices, wearables) to enable tracking of adverse events (risks). |
The results of this exploratory qualitative survey study show that healthcare professionals and patients may be ready to use digital options for educational additional risk minimization measures, either alongside or instead of paper. |
Given the benefits offered by digital technology, its widespread use in many fields, and the importance of patient safety as a topic, pharmaceutical companies and regulators should work together to establish a way forward for the use of more sophisticated digital options for educational additional risk minimization measures. |
