Characterization of the JHA1 i.c. lethal DENV challenge model. Four- to 5-week-old B6 WT mice were inoculated i.c. with 1 x 102 PFU of JHA1 or vehicle (mock). The survival (A), clinical scores (B), and body weight (C) were examined. Mice having >20% weight loss and/or exhibiting paralysis of two hind limbs were euthanized according to the animal protocol. Levels of liver aminotransferases [AST (D) and ALT (E)] were measured in sera after challenge. In (A,C), graphics were represented as pooled data from 2 different experiments with n = 8 mice per group. In (B–D), data from a representative experiment are shown (n = 5). Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA followed by Bonferroni's multiple comparisons test or log-rank test, where **p < 0.01.
