Strains lysogenic for λDE3 (Plac::gfp-tolA1-60) and harboring the indicated plasmid (rows 6 to 10 only) were grown for ∼3.5 mass doublings to OD600 = 0.5 to 0.6 in M9-maltose medium with 37 μM IPTG (all rows) and either no (rows 1 to 5) or 0.02% (rows 6 to 10) arabinose.
