Strains lysogenic for λCH536 (Plac::gfp-malF2-39-rodZ139-255-tolA294-421) (rows 1 to 14) or λCH543 (Plac::gfp-malF2-39-rodZ139-255) (rows 15 and 16) and transformed with the indicated plasmid (rows 7 to 14 and 16) were grown for ∼3.5 mass doublings to OD600 = 0.5 to 0.6 in M9-maltose medium with 37 μM IPTG and either no (all rows) or 0.01% (rows 7 to 14 and 16) arabinose. Note that the results in rows 7 to 14, and 16 were the same with or without the addition of arabinose. See also Table S2.
