Utilization of UDP-GlcNAc synthesized from glucose in protein glycosylation.

UDP-GlcNAc can be directly used to modify a protein chain to become O-GlcNAcylated protein. UDP-GlcNAc is also used to build complex glycan chains and attach them to a nascent protein chain mainly via either nitrogen of Asn or oxygen of Ser/Thr to become N- or O-glycosylated protein.
