Southern blot with E. canis and E. chaffeensis DNA (0.5 μg) using a 911-bp DIG-labeled p43 gene probe. The E. canis p43 hybridized with a single band in the genomic DNA of E. canis digested with AseI (lane 1). E. chaffeensis DNA did not hybridize with the p43 gene probe (lane 2).
