Protection of YP BGs against a lethal challenge with the wild-type Y. pestis 231 strain. Guinea pigs (A) and mice (B) were subjected to s.c. infection with different BGs strains or F1 at day 0 and boosted at day 14. 14 days after the last immunization, six mice and six guinea pigs from each group were challenged s.c. with 102 CFUs of wild-type Y. pestis 231 (33.3 LD50 for mice and 14.3 LD50 for cavies).
