Low molecular-weight gadolinium-chelated (in red) is inserted, both core-encapsulated and surface-conjugated, in liposome structures made of phospholipid bilayer (in light blue). The liposomes are also coated with PEG (in purple) and thus avoid penetration through placental barrier.
