Coronal and sagittal cross-sections of 3D NFT burden maps derived from serial histology and overlaid on the 9.4 T MRI scans of medial temporal lobe specimens from 18 brain donors. Each specimen is annotated with the brain donor identifier (cross-referencing Supplementary Table 2), NIA-AA neuropathological A/B/C staging,10 and primary/secondary pathological diagnoses. The A/B/C staging is from the contralateral hemisphere and encompasses Thal amyloid plaque staging (A0–A3), Braak staging (B0–B3) and CERAD neuritic plaque staging (C0–C3). The coronal slices are through the amygdala, anterior hippocampus and hippocampal body. Additional analysis comparing quantitative NFT burden measures to clinical Braak staging is reported in the Supplementary material, section 2.2.
