Flow chart of study participants. *Two hundred and eighteen patients were ineligible due to exclusion criteria: collecting someone else’s medication (83), were pregnant or lactating (10), could not attend to the pharmacy on a regular basis (75), had previously participated in any adherence education programme or study (19), had communication limitations or any other impairment the recruiting pharmacist considered as precluding them from participating in the study (31). **The difference of eight recruited pharmacies is due to pharmacies that had previously participated in the 2-month pilot study and wanted to continue but could not be allocated to the control group. Therefore, they were allocated to the intervention group.
