As measured in two-bottle choice testing (schematized in panel A), acute, tamoxifen-induced Rgs21 excision leads to a detectable deficit in quinine aversion after one week (B), and an increased deficit after five weeks (C). Eight-week old mice were either sham injected (corn oil only) (n = 10 mice) or injected (n = 11 mice) with 75 mg/kg of tamoxifen dissolved in corn oil once a day for 5 consecutive days (*, P < 0.05; ***, P < 0.001). A preference ratio of 0.5 (dashed line) indicates indifference towards the tastant solution relative to plain water.
