TABLE 1.

Patient data for peak troponin and IL-6 levels recorded for COVID-19 patients with no known cardiac dysfunctiona

Parameter Result for patients COVID-19 positive and with no known history of cardiac diseasea
Significance by t testb
Normal LVEF Newly reduced LVEF
No. of patient samples 165 41
Peak IL-6, pg/mL 111.5 (IQR, 49–296) 146 (IQR, 63.55–355.6) NS
Peak troponin, ng/mL 0.062 (IQR, 0.02–0.375) 1.27 (IQR, 0.07–14.53) P < 0.0001
a

Patients are broken into two groups: one with normal left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and the other with newly reduced LVEF (LVEF, <51). The data are presented as the median value with IQR in parentheses.

b

There was no significant difference (NS) between the two groups for peak IL-6, but there was a very significant difference in troponin (P < 0.0001).
